Hotel? Apartment? The Luxury Vacationer's Accommodation Quiz

When it comes to your living space, what kind of vacationer are you? Do you like the look
and feel of a luxury hotel, or do you prefer to have your own home away from home for a
week or two? Take the quiz below to check your vacation accommodation style.

Timing 1. I would rather keep my reservations cancellable without penalty in case
something comes up. 2. I prefer to get my accommodations nailed down well in
advance of the trip so that I can get exactly what I want for the best price.

Length of Stay 1. I only want to stay in one place for a few days so that I can see as
much as possible in the time I have available. 2. I love really staying put and getting to
know a place, and what it feels like to be a resident rather than a tourist.

Maid Service 1. Getting my room cleaned every day is a great luxury, and I can't do
without the mint on my pillow every night. 2. I hate being bothered by hotel staff who want
to clean my room or restock the minibar, and would gladly give up having the bed made
every day in order to have my privacy.

Concierge 1. I rely heavily on concierge services for recommendations and
arrangements for my various activities. 2. Concierges aren't really my thing; doing my
own research and planning is part of the fun of the visit.

Meals 1. I don't want to do so much as make a cup of tea on my vacation; I want
someone else to do all the cooking and serving. 2. I can't think of anything better than
having the option of grocery shopping and cooking my own meals; it literally gives me
the flavor of the place!

Space 1. I don't mind living in a space the size of my guest bedroom at home in
exchange for having room service on demand and hotel staff at my beck and call. 2. I
want a home rather than a room during my vacation, with plenty of room for all of us to
do whatever we want

Cost 1. I don't begrudge the room price and all the tipping I have to do at a hotel; it's
worth it to be pampered all the time. 2. I want the best value for my money, without a lot
of add ons that drive the bill up.

Are all of your answers 1s? If so, you are a dyed in the wool hotel person and will only
have a good time if you can stay somewhere that will cater to you throughout your
vacation. You can stay flexible in your plans, visit different locations in a short period of
time, and have all kinds of people waiting on you hand and foot. If all of your responses
are 2s, you will have the best holiday experience by renting an apartment and really
digging into the local scene. You will have a lot more living space for your dollar
compared to a hotel room, loads of privacy, and can choose to live like a resident during
your stay.
