President Obama dines steps from the Anais Paris Apartment!
La Fontaine de Mars Restaurant on rue Saint- Dominque is around the corner from the
Anais Paris Apartment which is part of the Paris Luxe Apartments portfolio.
Not since the Kennedys’ Paris tour of 1961 has Paris been so eager to see the
American first family. Paris had five very special visitors, President Obama, the first Lady,
first daughters Malia and Sasha and first grandma Marian Robinson. The President and
first lady were in Paris to join their counterparts from France, Canada and Britain to
commemorate the 65th anniversary of D-Day, the allied invasion of Normandy in World
War II that led to victory in Europe.
The first family stayed at the U.S. ambassador's residence in Paris and spent time as
Paris tourists with their daughters. Shortly after 9 a.m., the Obama family arrived at the
Pompidou Center, a famous Paris modern art museum constructed of color-coded
ducts established in 1977. The best view of Paris is seen from the top of the Pompidou
Center. Since daughter, Sasha was celebrating her 8th birthday in Paris it was fitting that
the family climbed the infamous Paris attraction, Notre Dame, the 12th century Gothic
Paris church. While in the Paris landmark, the first family were serenaded by a Paris
children’s choir. President Obama even lit a candle in the Paris church but to the dismay
of the Paris spectators the Paris cathedral was closed to the public during the first
family's Paris visit.
President Barack Obama and first lady, Michelle, dined at a cozy neighborhood Paris
bistro just a few blocks from the Eiffel Tower. Obama and Michelle dined at one of Paris’
top bistros, La Fontaine de Mars, established in 1908. As one of Paris’ renowned dining
establishments, this moderately priced, country style décor Paris restaurant, complete
with red and white checkered tablecloths and dark wood furniture is in the heart of Paris’
7th arrondissement. The Obamas shared the restaurant with other Paris diners, and the
other French restaurants on the popular Rue St. Dominique were filled. Paris crowds
pressed behind barriers while Paris police in riot gear lined the street. Parisians held
up cell phones and cameras to snap pictures of the first couple, and the Paris crowd
burst into applause as the Obamas left the Paris restaurant.
Joining them during their conventional Paris meal was Malia (first daughter), an
American writer and a fifth person. The traditional Paris bistro specializes in rustic
dishes from France's southwest region of Bordeaux Perigord, and the Basque. Paris
favorites such as foie gras, duck and cassoulet are on the menu as well. With its old-
fashioned Parisian air, traditional Paris food and not over-the-top prices for Paris, La
Fontaine de Mars has many followers. Fontaine is a Paris tourist dining institution since
it is mentioned in many Paris guidebooks. But best of all, the Paris restaurant is steps
away from the Anais Paris luxury apartment showcased by premier luxury Paris vacation
apartment agency, Paris Luxe.

The Paris bistro staff told the media that the President chose roast lamb for dinner,
while everyone else in the party had beef filets and crème brulee. There was no French
wine, just water. The Paris restaurant has warm duck foie gras salad with pears for 26
euros($36) and crème brulee dessert for 9 euros ($13). President Obama picked up the
approximately 300€ check. The Presidential party was waited on by Gabriel de Carvalho
who told the Associated Foreign Press and that there was a secret service agent taster
in the Paris kitchen to test the meal before it was served. "They had someone who
tasted the dishes," said waiter Gabriel de Carvalho from La Fontaine de Mars, the Paris
restaurant where Obama and his family has a traditional Paris dinner. "It wasn't very
pleasant for the cooks, but the person was very nice, so it all went well," he said on the
Itele news channel.
